Water Testing

Understand your water quality before choosing a filtration system.

The right filtration system depends on what is in your water. A test tells you what you are actually dealing with, so you can choose a system that solves your problem instead of guessing.

Why test first

  • Water quality varies between neighbourhoods, and between tap, bore and tanker supply
  • High dissolved salts usually call for RO; other problems may need UV, UF or softening instead
  • A test gives a baseline, so you can see the difference after treatment

What a test tells you

  • TDS (total dissolved solids): whether you need RO to remove dissolved salts
  • Hardness: whether scale will build up and a softener would help
  • Taste, smell and appearance: clues to chlorine, iron or sediment problems
  • How your source compares: tap, bore and tanker water can be very different

After the test

We explain the results in plain language and, if treatment is needed, recommend a system that suits your water and how much you use.

How it works

  1. Step 1: Request a test

Tell us your city and water source.

  2. Step 2: Sample

A sample of your water is taken from the source you use.

  3. Step 3: Results

We explain what the results mean for you.

  4. Step 4: Recommendation

If treatment is needed, we suggest the right system.

What is TDS, and what does the number mean?

TDS stands for total dissolved solids: the amount of minerals, salts and other substances dissolved in water, usually measured in parts per million (ppm) with a handheld meter.

TDS is a useful first indicator, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. It says nothing about bacteria, and two samples with the same TDS can contain very different things. That’s why a proper water test is the best starting point before choosing a system.

Why should I test my water before buying a filter?

Different water needs different treatment. Water with high dissolved salts usually needs reverse osmosis (RO), while water that is already low in dissolved solids but may carry bacteria may be better served by UV or ultrafiltration. Testing first means you pay for the right system, not the most expensive one.

My neighbour’s water is fine. Why would mine be different?

Water quality can vary a lot between neighbourhoods and even between houses on the same street, depending on whether the water comes from a municipal line, a bore or a tanker, how deep a bore is, and the condition of pipes and storage tanks. Results from next door are a guide, not a guarantee.

Isn’t boiling water enough?

Boiling kills most germs, but it doesn’t remove dissolved salts, heavy metals or chemicals. In fact, as water evaporates the dissolved solids become slightly more concentrated. Filtration and boiling solve different problems.
